Cheese Biscuits Recipe

I'm thinking about starting to post a different recipe every Sunday. I'm not the world's greatest cook (not even close!). But I do know a few good recipes for a mixtures of things. Dinners, cakes, desserts, snacks. Most of them will be really simple. Especially dinner ones! I'm better at making sweet things! Haha!

I thought I'd start this out with my recipe for cheesy biscuits. These are great if you have kids. They're handy for snacking on instead of sweet biscuits.

You will need:
100g plain flour
50g butter
1 egg yolk from a large egg
5tsp cold water
75g grated cheese (which ever kind you prefer)
Cling film
Cookie cutter (which ever shape you like)

How to:

  1. Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Cut the butter up into chunks and put in the bowl with the flour.
  2. Use your fingers to mix the butter and flour together until it looks like bread crumbs.
  3. Mix the egg yolk and the water together in a small bowl. Take one quarter of your mixture and put it to the side to use later.
  4. Add half (or a little more if you like) the cheese to the flour and butter mixture.
  5. Add your egg mixture and and mix with your hands until you have a dough. (If you feel like your mixture is still too dry you can add a little water or a little touch more of the egg mixture you put to the side. Not all of it though!)
  6. Roll the dough into a ball and wrap it in cling film. Put it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  7. Pre heat oven to gas mark 5 (190°C or 375°F)
  8. Sprinkle flour onto a clean work surface and roll out the dough until it's about as thick as your little finger.
  9. Use your cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place them on a greased baking sheet.
  10. Brush the shapes with the remaining egg mixture then sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of them.
  11. Bake in the center of the oven for approximately 12 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Enjoy! :)
